OK Lee, what is Hyperhidrosis?

A questions asked many times along with – Why do my hands get so sweaty? Why do I have sweaty feet? My underarms are so sweaty? etc… I could go on all day but I want to try and answer these questions within the posts. There are posts coming on line all the time within my website so please make sure you check them out.

Natural Sweating

What is Hyperhidrosis

Sweating During Hard Physical Activity is Normal

Well folks, the basis of this is the somewhat of an unfortunate fact that we have to sweat in order to control body temperature.

When we sweat we produce a layer of moisture, which evaporates and cools us down a little. We’ve all felt the summer breeze on our sweaty brow and felt the cooling effect of this.

Sweating is exacerbated during many physical activities and when we are in warm or hot surroundings. The fact that we sweat is just a natural response to a rise in temperature or anxiety.

Excessive Sweating – Hyperhidrosis

Regulation of sweating is done by the sympathetic nervous system and in contrast to the ‘normal’ sweating process, roughly 1% of the population have an overly active system (hyper), causing excessive sweating or causing sweating to occur at inappropriate times. Many people endure excessive sweating daily and so anyone who thinks they are alone on this may take some comfort in the knowledge that there are many others – including me.

It can occur in many different areas of the body, and the condition is known as Hyperhidrosis, which means ‘excessive sweating’. Hopefully this gives us a quick answer to the “What is Hyperhidrosis?” question!

Contrary to popular belief Hyperhidrosis affects both sexes equally, and all races – at least it’s following the equality and diversity guidelines. Hyperhidrosis is not a temporary condition. Many people who suffer from it have suffered for many years, often from childhood or sometimes from adolescence.

Hot or cold, the sweating is constant, and the impact of hyperhidrosis can be severe. Wetness and staining of clothes, clammy hands and sodden smelly shoes, inability to grip objects such as pens, cold and wet handshake, damage to keyboards and difficulty dealing with paper and metals, can make a miserable existence. You may constantly worry about changing clothes, freshening up, using absorbent pads or sticking with loose black or white clothes, and may avoid making friends or interacting with people at work. Some people. just like myself say that they are even embarrassed to hold the hands of those they love. Loneliness, depression and decreased confidence can result.

How do I Stop Sweating

What is Hyperhidrosis

How can we turn off that tap?

Now that we’ve answered the question of ‘what is hyperhidrosis’ we can concentrate on the cures or products and actions that can help alleviate the problem.

Well, in all honesty you really wouldn’t want to stop sweating. However, for those that are living with Hyperhidrosis, a reduction or elimination of sweat on areas such as our hands, feet and armpits would improve their lives, confidence and remove numerous awkward situations. There are fortunately numerous solutions to Hyperhidrosis, and some, such as Iontophoresis, could be seen as rather strange in application, but can be amazingly affective. If you run your cursor to the menu marked ‘Solutions‘ at the top of the page, you will see pages of solutions that people use for hyperhidrosis.
